Zhao Xian is the heir to the Song Dynasty. Afther the death of his father he becomes the ruler of South China untill the fall of Xiangyang. Shortly after inheriting the throne he can be seen playing with his sister Ling Ling. He is later crowned as emperor in 'The Scholar's Pen' under the guidance of chancellor Jia Sidao. When Kublai Khan besieges Xiangyang in 'The Heavenly and the Primal' he is spirited away by Loyalists and is guarded by Lotus in 'The Hunter and the Sable Weaver'.
Marco and Mei Lin track him down and bring him to Kublai after fighting and fleeing from Lotus, the Emperor's bodyguard. During that time they find Song Dynasty loyalists, who have commited suicide by drowning as they consider their emperor a god. In 'Hug' Despite Marco, Chabi and Jingim arguing for leniency, as well as the boys own pleas, Kublai suffocates him to death by smothering him whilst hugging him.
His body is later seen hanging by a noose, afterwards a Mongol cuts him down after there are revolts by those loyal to the Song Dynasty.
